You must compete favorably with time. You must compete favorably with the system. You must compete favorably with yourself. My candid advice: Run your own race! It's a race against time, not people. It's a race against the system, not somebody. It's a race against yourself, not them! Run your own race! How can the United States shape global #development in an age of great power competition? Why does US leadership matter? We spoke with Daniel F. Runde, Senior Vice President at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) about his new book “The American Imperative: Reclaiming Global Leadership Through Soft Power.”This was an incredibly fun conversation and chock-full of insights! Dan makes a passionate case for continued leadership by the US and the West in the multilateral system it helped create and shape. We also talk about “development as applied foreign policy,” how China and Russia operate, the role of mining and minerals in climate policies, the US Global Fragility Act, and much more! And Dan’s book is a must read – a masterclass in the past, present, and potential future path of the US development system and policies!#development #multilateralism #GlobalFragilityAct #AmericanImperative #softpower #USA #China #Russia #WorldBank #UnitedNationsWatch⏩ https://lnkd.in/e4ZdxtSDListen🎧 https://lnkd.in/eWy8SvdNRead the book: https://lnkd.in/ed7EdaTF

Life comes at you hard. After years of playing #football in high school and college, you realize your dream and you are in the National Football League (NFL). However according to Statista, the average career in the NFL is 3.3 years. When the dream ends, what’s next? It's a new Friday, so that means it's a new episode of "60 Seconds ofRisk". In this episode, we talk with BJ Johnson, President at . Prior to establishing his firm, Mr. Johnson played football at the The University of Texas at Austin. From there he continued his football career in the NFL playing for both the Denver Broncos Football Club and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, as he says in our discussion, “football is a young man’s game”. Eventually, time catches up with everyone. Fortunately, Mr. Johnson knew the dream would end someday so he had a plan to mitigate the #risk when his first occupation came to an end. As is captured in his firm’s motto “Dream, Plan, Grind”, success in the world of #construction doesn’t fall in your lap – it takes effort. So, if you are a highly talented college/amateur athlete, or you made it to “The Show”, know this – you can’t play the game forever. Listen to some words of advice from Mr. Johnson and know eventually the game ends. What do you do next?
