The Marion County Jail is located in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Adult Detention Center is operated by the local Sheriff’s Office and part of the Community Justice Campus. The facility houses an average daily population of almost 2,500 inmates.

The roster of the Adult Detention Center is hosted online by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office via Inmate Lookup. It may be searched by an inmate’s name, data of birth, booking number, or identification number. Information provided includes inmate’s names and identifying details, ID numbers, location, and bond, charge, and hearing information. Mugshots are not provided.

How to Send Mail or Package

All personal mail to inmates is scanned and viewed by inmates electronically. Books and other physical publications are not accepted via mail. Mail must have the sender’s full name and physical address in the top left corner, the inmate’s full name and identifier, and the full name and state of the facility. The address is as follows:

Money may be added to inmates’ commissary accounts in person, online, by phone, or through the mail. For in person deposits, there is a kiosk available 24 hours a day in the Community Justice Campus lobby. An ID is required for kiosk use. Keefe’s 800+ other kiosk locations may also be used to make deposits. Another method to deposit funds in person is to register for a cashpaytoday.com account, get a barcode, and make cash deposits at stores such as Dollar General, Family Dollar, CVS, 7-Eleven and Speedway.

Money can be added to inmates’ accounts electronically through the Access Corrections mobile app, which is available for Apple and Android devices. Money may also be deposited via phone by calling 866.345.1884.

Money orders and US government checks are accepted through the mail. They should be made payable to the Marion County Jail Commissary. The inmate’s name, cell housing number, birthdate, and gallery number must appear on the money order. When mailing money orders to the MCSO, the envelope should be addressed to:

Visitation Hours

Visitation at the Marion County Jail is operated by GettingOut. All visits are conducted by video. Visitors should create a profile at the GettingOut website or on their mobile app, available from Google Play and App Store. A profile is required. Visits should select Marion County Adult Detention Center as the facility to be visited.

Visitation is available to inmates every day. Hours are 07:00 am to 11:00 am, 1:30pm to 5:30pm, and 7:30pm to 10:00pm, but are subject to change. Up to four visitors in any combination of adults and children may attend, although one adult must be present when minors are visiting.

Marion County Sheriff Information

The Adult Detention Center is operated by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Kerry Joseph Forestal has been Sheriff since 2018 and was re-elected in 2022. The office is open 8am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday.

Requests should describe the records sought in as much detail as possible and provide the name and contact information of the person making the request. By law, government agencies must respond to verbal or in-person requests within 24 hours and written requests within 7 days.There may be a fee for copies of records, typically no more than $.10 per printed page.
